Hi There!

My name is Anita Thompson and I am a Teaching Artist who received my BFA at Rowan University in the year 2000, where I majored in painting and illustration.

In 2012, I illustrated four children’s books through independent publishers, while also working on private portrait commissions. In 2019, I started a mobile art business called Artventure Workshops, where I began teaching art workshops to all ages in Libraries and other venues throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  I also teach classes and private instruction virtually on different online platforms.

What is different about my approach to teaching?

I’m happy you asked! I had a learning challenge growing up that went undiagnosed until my adult years, so I understand what it’s like to struggle with instructions and even self-confidence. Because of this, I provide clear and concise instructions with a sense of humor thrown in, all while the student is having fun AND learning new skills that will foster the development of their motor, language, and social skills, decision making, and inventiveness.   Did I mention having fun? I encourage students not to just follow everything I am instructing them to do, but also to use their own ideas to enhance the project. Art should be fun, regardless of age or skill level!
